Andor Glaudemans
prof. dr.

I am a nuclear medicine specialist and always trying to implement innovative diagnostic and therapeutic methods in imaging. My main research interests involve infectious and inflammatory diseases, tumor-immunology, and development of new-targeted diagnostic tools for PET imaging. The latter focus is carried out in close collaboration with our radiochemists. Within the lymphoma research Groningen team we have a close collaboration with the department of hematology. The research is focused on finding new methods for diagnosis and therapy evaluation in several types of lymphomas. We have a special interest in post-transplant lymphatic disorders (PTLD). Furthermore, we are developing and evaluating several fields of radionuclide therapy, so called theranostics.

Development and testing of a new disposable sterile device for labelling white blood cells
Aim. White blood cell (WBC) labelling requires isolation of cells from patient’s blood under sterile conditions using sterile materials, buffers and disposables under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions. Till now, this limited the use of white blood cell scintigraphy (WBC-S) only to well equipped laboratories with trained personnel. We invented, developed and tested a disposable, sterile, closed device for blood manipulation, WBC purification and radionuclide labelling without exposing patient’s blood and the operator to contamination risks. This device prototype and a final industrialized device (Leukokit (R)) were tested...

Adverse cardiovascular effects of anabolic steroids: pathophysiology imaging
Published in: European Journal of Clinical Investigation
Eur J Clin Invest 2012; 42 (7): 795803 Abstract Background Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are widely abused for enhancing muscle mass, strength, growth and improving athletic performance. Materials and methods In recent years, many observational and interventional studies have shown important adverse cardiovascular effects of AAS abuse. Conclusions This review discusses established and future perspectives of novel molecular imaging techniques that may serve as potential tools for early detection of AAS-associated cardiovascular disorders.
PET and MRI for the evaluation of regional myocardial perfusion and wall thickening after myocardial infarction
Published in: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging
BACKGROUND: Deterioration of left ventricular (LV) function after myocardial infarction (MI) is a major cause of heart failure. Myocardial perfusion performance may play an important role in deterioration or improvement in LV function after MI. The aim of this study was to evaluate the myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) and stress perfusion in deteriorating and non-deteriorating LV segments in patients after MI by PET and MRI, respectively. METHODS: Regional wall thickening of 352 segments in 22 patients was assessed at 4 and 24 months after MI by cardiac MRI....
Functional Imaging in Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia after Gastric Bypass Surgery for Morbid Obesity
Published in: Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism
Context: Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has been increasingly reported. It is induced by beta-cell hyperplasia often referred to as nesidioblastosis. Positron emission tomography (PET) with [11C]-5-hydroxytryptophan (C-11-HTP) and 6-[18F]fluoro-3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (F-18-DOPA) has been successfully applied to image neuroendocrine tumors. No data are available of the usefulness of these functional imaging techniques in post-RYGB in this new endocrine disorder, neither for diagnostic purposes nor for follow-up. Objective: We present a patient with post-RYGB hypoglycemia who underwent C-11-HTP and F-18-DOPA PET scintigraphy for diagnostic purposes and to evaluate...
