I am a nuclear medicine specialist and always trying to implement innovative diagnostic and therapeutic methods in imaging. My main research interests involve infectious and inflammatory diseases, tumor-immunology, and development of new-targeted diagnostic tools for PET imaging. The latter focus is carried out in close collaboration with our radiochemists. Within the lymphoma research Groningen team we have a close collaboration with the department of hematology. The research is focused on finding new methods for diagnosis and therapy evaluation in several types of lymphomas. We have a special interest in post-transplant lymphatic disorders (PTLD). Furthermore, we are developing and evaluating several fields of radionuclide therapy, so called theranostics.

TGF-beta Antibody Uptake in Recurrent High-Grade Glioma Imaged with Zr-89-Fresolimumab PET

Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) signaling is involved in glioma development. The monoclonal antibody fresolimumab (GC1008) can neutralize all mammalian isoforms of TGF-beta, and tumor uptake can be visualized and quantified with Zr-89-fresolimumab PET in mice. 18F-FDOPA Accumulation in Traumatic Rib Fractures: A Potential Pitfall

F-FDOPA (6-[F]fluoro-L-DOPA) is used for the detection and staging of neuroendocrine tumors by visualizing the uptake of amine precursors in these tumors with high sensitivity and specificity. However, as this tracer is only available in a limited number of centers worldwide and the minority of the nuclear medicine specialists and referring clinicians is familiar with the distribution pattern of F-FDOPA, some physiological uptake patterns and pitfalls remain to be fully elucidated. Diagnosing the presence of infection in the foot of a patient with diabetes can sometimes be a difficult task. Because open wounds are always colonized with microorganisms, most agree that infection should be diagnosed by the presence of systemic or local signs of inflammation.
